Drawing and Painting Certificate

The Certificate in Drawing and Painting provides a solid basic understanding of drawing and painting techniques, as well as a contextual understanding of issues of historic and contemporary importance to this discipline. Students learn how to analyze and employ compositional dynamics, color interaction, value, and space within the two-dimensional format. They learn to create the illusion of three-dimensional form and space using a two -dimensional medium. A basic understanding of the human form as well as an introduction to a variety of materials and media central to drawing and painting provides the student with a solid foundation on which to find their own creative voice. Completion of this certificate enables students to continue their studio work outside of an academic setting, or complete additional coursework for an undergraduate degree in fine arts.
