Successful completion of this certificate prepares students to enter the transforming electrical power sector as a competent distributed energy systems technician. Students gain a broad understanding of the dynamics of the changing electricity sector, supported with hands-on learning experiences in the area of smart-grid and micro-grid design, installation, maintenance and management.

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
• Demonstrate competency in nationally accredited construction safety standards.
• Describe the appropriate technologies for use in power generation, distribution and storage.
• Apply knowledge of electrical codes and regulations applicable to distributed energy systems in the design of a community-scale microgrid system.
• Design and present a community-scale microgrid system.
