Fine Arts Photography Certificate

Photography studies at SFCC include digital, black and white film, and alternative processes, as well as,
conceptual and expressive approaches to using photography as a means of communication. Students develop an understanding of historical, cultural, and aesthetic perspectives in photography in addition to learning how to critically analyze an image.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Work competently with a variety of photographic equipment and techniques.
  • Compose, light, stage, capture, modify and print exhibition quality photographs.
  • Describe contemporary and historical perspectives in photography.
  • Analyze photographs for expressive and conceptual content, including composition, meaning, subtext and aesthetic style.
  • Prepare a portfolio appropriate for application to a four-year institution.
