This program provides the knowledge and skills for entry-level employment in the adobe construction and historic preservation fields. The certificate is also geared towards owner builders who want to design, build, restore or preserve their own adobe home. Students focus on building and preserving adobe structures from foundation to roof using traditional New Mexican adobe construction skills and appropriate local building materials. Passive solar adobe design and construction principles are at the core of this certificate. Upon successful completion, students will be qualified to gain employment as both an entry-level office and field technician.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Successfully meet nationally accredited construction safety standards.
- Apply natural building energy conservation practices and preservation standards.
- Determine a suitable soil mix and form earthen blocks and plasters using various methods of production.
- Demonstrate basic residential earthen construction skills: lay out foundation footings, stem walls and earthen walls to code.
- Perform basic adobe preservation skills: adobe basal wall stabilization, block stitching and crack repairs.
